Ballari: As of now, the Reddy brothers and their confidant, B Sriramulu don’t seem to have any plan up their sleeve to defeat the JDS-Congress coalition when it attempts to prove its majority on the floor of the assembly.
The Reddy-Sriramulu combine tried to woo legislators, who won from ST reserved constituencies to help the BJP win its trust vote, but failed because these MLAs were afraid of being associated with them in the aftermath of the mining scam, claimed a scheduled tribe Congress MLA.
Despite their claims to the contrary, the Congress has produced audio clips of alleged phone conversations of former Minister, Gali Janardhan Reddy and Mr Sriramulu with Congress legislators, trying to lure them to defect to the BJP and support its vote of confidence on the floor of the assembly.
But despite failing to drum up support for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr Sriramulu continues to put on a brave face, claiming his party is not upset at the resignation of its state chief B S Yeddyurappa as Chief Minister in a matter of days.
“We will give sleepless nights to the JDS-Congress government. We will watch them round- the- clock and expose their corrupt rule before the people of the state,” Mr Sriramulu asserted.
BSY vows to stage a comeback
Coming to grips with the loss in the numbers game in government formation, BJP state chief B S Yeddyurappa on Monday vowed to stage a comeback.
He told party workers in an emotional message that their efforts would not go in vain. Yeddyurappa, who bowed out of as Chief Minister in less than three days after being sworn in on May 17, lamented that "democracy has been axed."
The BJP as the single largest party, which got the people's mandate, was thrown out of power, he said in a Facebook post. The Congress was reduced to 78 seats from 122 in the previous assembly and JD(S) with 37 seats too lost three seats as compared to the last assembly, he said.
