Vydehi doctors bungle head surgery, bin pieces of skull

Two doctors at Whitefields Vydehi Hospital have been booked for causing medical complications in a patient by operating him for a blood clot and discarding pieces of his skull.

The patients mother Rukminiyamma said she brought her son Manjunath to the hospital on February 2, 2017, as he complained of a headache. After an examination, Dr Guruprasad and Dr Rakesh told her that Manjunath needed surgery to remove a blood clot in his head or else his life would be in danger.

Following Rukminiyammas consent, the doctors removed pieces of his skull and discharged him saying they could be fixed later.

In her complaint to the Whitefield police, Rukminiyamma further stated that Manjunath developed a headache once again and she approached the doctors on January 26 to fix the missing pieces of his skull.

But Dr Guruprasad and Dr Rakesh told her they threw the pieces in the dustbin and sent her from the hospital. The authorities of Vydehi hospital are not available for comment.

Police said they had summoned the two doctors to explain what went wrong during the surgery. They also want to find out if there are different surgical methods to treat blood clots in the brain. A case has been registered under IPC section 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
