Two sentenced to 8 years in jail in counterfeit currency case

The fourth additional district and sessions court sentenced two men accused in a counterfeit currency note racket to eight years in jail and a fine of Rs 50,000 on Tuesday.

The two convicts are Maruti of Hulikunte village, Koratagere taluk, Tumakuru district and Afroze of B G Palya, Tumakuru city. The court sentenced them to eight years rigorous imprisonment.

Sub-inspector Pranesh Rao had raided Marutis house and seized counterfeit Rs 500, Rs 100, Rs 50 and Rs 20 notes all adding up to a total of Rs 35,770 of fake currency. Police also seized Rs 58,000 of genuine currency that had been exchanged by circulating the fake ones.

Police said that Afroze was supplying the fake notes to Maruti.

Judge B N Lavanyalata passed the judgement. Public Prosecutor S K Narayanaswamy argued on behalf of the state.
