Southwest monsoon to hit Bengaluru on June 1: Met

Bengaluru: Although the Southwest monsoon has reached Kerala and Mangaluru in Karnataka, the city will get scattered rainfall till June 1 and the Southwest monsoon will begin only after June 1, met department officials said. 

The department said that strong winds from westerly direction of 60 kmph speed is likely to hit along Kerala-Karnataka coasts and Lakshadweep.

The department has issued a warning to the fishermen against venturing into the sea along the Kerala-Karnataka coast and Lakshadweep during the next 48 hours.

Rain and thunderstorms is likely to occur at most places over coastal Karnataka for the next three days.

As per Skymet Weather, a well-marked low-pressure area is marked over southeast Arabian Sea off Karnataka and Kerala coast. Meanwhile, south Interior Karnataka including Bengaluru may witness isolated light rain activities for the next two days. Thereafter, with the setting of monsoon on June 1, the intensity of these rains would increase over Bengaluru.

Till May 29, the state capital has recorded 229.7 mm rain, which is more than double of its monthly average of 107.4 mm.
