Shah, Rahul visits will have no impact on voters: H D Kumaraswamy

No matter how many temples BJP national president Amit Shah visits, or how many roadside dhabas AICC president Rahul Gandhi eats at, their influence will not work in Karnataka, said state JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy said.

Speaking to reporters at Shahpur, near Yadgir on Tuesday, Kumaraswamy said that both the national leaders are visiting mutts, temples and masjids and playing with communal sentiments of people. “They believe that Kannadigas will be fooled, but our people will prove them wrong in the upcoming elections,” he expressed confidently.

“Amit Shah says that the BJP will resolve the Mahadayi deadlock if voted to power. Rahul Gandhi says Congress will do it, if it comes to power. Dont they realise that it is an inter-state dispute, and according to the laws of the union of states, the centre has the Constitutional responsibility to intervene and settle the dispute. Every citizen knows this. The statements made by the two national leaders had caused anxiety among people,” Kumaraswamy said.

Replying to a question from scribes, Kumaraswamy said that he had asked Congress to relinquish one Rajya Sabha seat for the election. But the Congress had refused. “This is like what happened when Pandavas asked for one single village and the Kauravas denied them the request. You all know what happened to the Kauravas,” said the JD(S) leader.

The former CM said that instead of waiving farmers loans and curbing farmers suicides, the BJP was making a show of taking a fistful of rice to farmers houses and eating with them. “This is an election gimmick,” he accused.

He said that JD(S) had tied up with BSP in order to set up an independent government in the state. JD(S) had made a pre-poll agreement to let BSP contest in 20 constituencies, he added.
