PM Narendra Modi praise, false love: Mallikarjun Kharge

HUMNABAD: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge Thursday reacted angrily to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing sympathy for him, retorting that neither he nor Dalits need Mr. Modi’s crocodile tears.

Addressing a public meeting here Mr Kharge lambasted Mr Modi for questioning his integrity.  “It was the BJP that prevented me from becoming the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. As per the Constitution, ruling government and Speaker can make the leader of the largest legislative party on the floor as Leader of Opposition. But, BJP denied me the post. Now, coming to my constituency, Mr. Modi is showing phony love towards me and Dalits. They feign love to someone and marry someone else.” he said.

Countering Modi’s dismissal of his [Kharge’s] contributions to HK region, Mr. Kharge said it was he and the UPA government at the Centre, and not the BJP, that provided Special Status to HK region by amending the Constitution to insert Clause J to the Article 371. BJP-led NDA government had outright rejected the long-standing demand for Article 371(J) by stating that it would open Pandora's box”, he added.

On the property allegation, Mr. Kharge told Mr. Modi: “In my 47 years of political life, nobody made such allegations either in Assembly or in Parliament, as you did.  You wearing a suit worth Rs. 10 lakh, make allegations against me, that too standing in my constituency? At the age of 75, I am living on a bonus period and I am not afraid of your allegations. I know how to tackle you.”

AICC president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary and Karnataka in-charge K.C. Venugopal, who were on the stage, were found repeatedly clapping along with the cheering crowd.
