On Good Friday, the faithful throng Bengaluru churches

Bengaluru: There was heavy rush in city’s churches as the faithful thronged to attend the Good Friday service, to mark the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ.
"We remember sacrifice made by Jesus Christ for the larger good and how he freed men and women from their sins and sickness," said Diana Tholoor, who attended the morning service at All Peoples Church. Emmanual Church was also filled with people to attend the special service. At Our Lady Lourdes Church in Ulsoor, people were also seen enacting the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

"Good Friday is a day of fasting and abstinence. People have simple food, but on Easter Sunday special dishes such as  colourful Easter eggs, sanna pork vindaloo, chicken roast, ghee rice and mutton pepper fry is something that is spread at many family lunches or dinners," said Dr Ajith Benedict Royan, Secretary, Parish Council, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ulsoor.

"Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We invite friends and family for parties and feasting," said Raymond Roy, who is busy decorating his whole house with eggs and bunnies.

"There is no specific menu for Easters and it more about family time and getting together and indulging in good food," said Diana. She said that one of the significant parts of Good Fridays is the hot cross buns which get sold out in bakeries on Thursday itself.

For some, however, it is more than celebrations. Toni Freer, who runs an animal shelter in the city, said, "No Easter plans. I just spend time in the shelter. Easter is not just about the bunny, but of the lamb of life."
