A new building of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council at the Prasanna Kumar Block of Bangalore University was inaugurated on Monday.
The media was not invited to the event attended by Higher Education Minister Basavraj Rayareddi.
When asked, Vice-Chairman of the Council S V Ranganath said, “It was a small function, it lasted only 10 minutes. If there was a formal function, there would be something for the media to cover. But there were no speeches.”
Earlier, there was a controversy over the construction of the building in the premises which now belongs to the Bengaluru Central University (BCU).
The registrar had written to the principal secretary, Higher Education Department, saying that the new university requires land.
In the letter, BCU had asked the government to direct the Council not to occupy more land.
Ranganath said he was not aware of the letter and that the land had been given to the Council formally by the government and was backed by documents.
