Commuters on National Highways will not have to go in search of hotels, toilets or shops as the NHAI is set to facilitate the construction of such amenities near 35 toll plazas in the state.
Named Highway Nest, the first such facility was opened near Kempegowda International Airport last month.
Regional Officer of The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Y V Prasad said the facilities have been classified into three categories – Highway Nest, Highway Nest Village and Highway Nest Mini.
“We will collaborate with the public who own land parcels abutting the national highways to develop wayside amenities. NHAI will help landowners in the conversion of land use and in getting clearances from authorities concerned,” Prasad said.
The Nests will have space to park cars, buses and trucks. Besides food and fuel, minor repair shops, restrooms for passengers and dormitories for drivers will be available.
The NHAI has identified sites within 250 metres from the toll plazas.
For the Highway Nest Village, NHAI has identified 34 sites. The authority is also considering giving the project to the Ministry of Tourism under a build operate and transfer basis.
Officials have finalised an expression of interest (EOI) received from farmers who have land parcels at such places.
Another EOI, under Phase II, is likely to be issued in the coming days, officials said.
