Mysuru buses to operate from Majestic

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will start operating buses going towards Mysuru from Majestic Bus Stand and will reopen 23 platforms that were closed eight years ago for the Namma Metro’s interchange station construction work.

With this, services heading towards Mysuru, Madikeri, Kodagu, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and starting from the Satellite Bus Stand on Mysuru Road will originate from Majestic. After the Metro work started, KSRTC had shifted services to two satellite bus-stands, one on Mysuru Road and the other, Basaveshwara bus station, at Peenya.

“The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd returned the area to KSRTC a few months ago and we have renovated all the 23 platforms to give them a new look. The corporation has decided to operate buses from Majestic because of the Metro Rail connectivity. People can easily reach the bus stand using Metro services,” a senior KSRTC official told Deccan Chronicle. A source said that the corporation spent close to Rs 1.7 crore for platform renovation.

But commuters felt that buses will take a longer time to reach their destinations because of heavy traffic in and around Majestic. Also, increased number of buses will add to traffic congestion near Majestic, they said.

“Passengers need not worry as Majestic and Satellite Bus Station will both be pick-up points. Also, only luxury and premium buses, like Volvos and sleeper class, towards Mysuru and inter-state destinations will start operating from Majestic. Normal buses will remain at the Satellite Bus Station,” the officer said.

The KSRTC had given 20-odd acres of land for the construction of Metro station, of which close to eight acres were used by BMRCL, while the rest was returned in phases.

According to the source, around 100 premium buses will be shifted to the Majestic Bus Stand. KSRTC operates a bus to Mysuru every 15 minutes till midnight and resumes services after 2 am.
