Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy has urged the Centre to provide quota for local students in Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Information Technology at Dharwad and Raichur respectively.
“The institutions established in Karnataka utilising the states land, infrastructure and assistance, should cater to the needs of local students. I had requested the Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar to reserve 25% seats for local students. This could be done by amending the rules of HRD ministry. But, there has no positive response for my request till now,” Rayareddy said. He said that though it had been suggested to run these institutions in partnership with private entities, it is quite difficult to look for private partrners. Hence, the Centre too should provide grants to IIT and IIIT.
