MCC Polls: Parties facing problem aplenty as filing of nomination papers ends tomorrow

Mysuru: With just a day left for filing of nomination papers (Aug.20) for the Aug.31 MCC polls, all the three major parties — Congress JD(S) and BJP are facing a problems aplenty in their ranks, as unsuccessful ticket aspirants are mulling on contesting as rebel candidates.

City JD(S) President K.T. Cheluvegowda said that the party has finalised the list for a few Wards and the list for more than 30 Wards will be finalised by Monday morning, just before the deadline for filing of nomination papers.

City Congress President R. Murthy said that the party has received 250 applications for 65 MCC wards and the list of party candidates will be finalised on Sunday at a meeting to be chaired by former CM  Siddharamaiah.

But the number of applicants seeking tickets is more in the BJP when compared to Congress and JD(S) and as such, the party is facing difficulty in allotting tickets.

However, City BJP President Dr.B.H. Manjunath has expressed hope of finalising the list by Monday morning.

Meanwhile, K.Harish Gowda, a JD(S) rebel, who had contested as an Independent candidate from Chamaraja Assembly segment in the May Assembly polls, is said to be making efforts to return to the JD(S). Harish Gowda, who is said to be a close confident of PWD Minister H.D. Revanna, had made moves to return to the JD(S) fold, but CM H.D. Kumaraswamy (HDK) is said to have thwarted his attempts, at least for now.

Anticipating Harish Gowda’s re-entry to the JD(S), the party was ready to allot a few tickets to his (Harish Gowda) supporters for the MCC polls.

But the intervention of HDK, has been a setback for Harish Gowda’s efforts to rejoin the JD(S), it is said.
