Madikeri-Mangaluru road: BRO conducts survey

Mangaluru: Experts of Border Road Organisation (BRO) have arrived to study the damage wrought by landslides on the national highway connecting Madikeri and Mangaluru and recommend a permanent solution to prevent mutilation of the highway in future.

Official sources said the road passing through Sampaje Ghat was damaged at several points while in some other stretches, craters measuring several feet wide were caused by the landslides.

According to official sources, these experts would submit a report for reconstruction of the road, and their report would be discussed with officers of the highway authority before commencement of work on damaged sections.

Meanwhile, officers of the National Highway Mangaluru Division are taking steps to ensure movement of light vehicles on NH 275 between Sullia (Dakshina Kannada) and Madikeri. The road is likely to be open for light vehicles in three weeks."We are repairing the road and want to open it for light vehicles and emergency services at the earliest. It is a challenge as there are huge craters in some stretch. We are hopeful of completing this at the earliest," NH Mangaluru Division Executive Engineer Subbarama Holla told Deccan Chronicle.

Connectivity on this road is very important as the road is the main link between Dakshina Kannada, northern villages of Kodagu and Madikeri.
