LPG blast: Four-year-old girl succumbs to burn injuries

BENGALURU: Four-year-old Devika, who had suffered severe burns after a cylinder exploded in Bagalgunte, died early on Friday morning at Victoria hospital.

Devika was the daughter of Devaraj and Lakshmamma. She had suffered burns in nearly half of her body.

The couple's son, Niranjan (7), has sustained 70% burns and his condition too is said to be critical. Some of the relatives along with their children had come to their house on Wednesday morning as the summer holidays are going on.

In the night, after dinner, Lakshamma forgot to switch off the gas cylinder regulator.

Devaraj, a security guard who was on night shift, came home around 5 am.

Lakshmamma, who woke up, opened the door and switched on the lights, triggering the cylinder blast.

Eight people, including four children, were injured and are being treated at Victoria hospital.

Except Niranjan and Devika, rest of the victims have sustained 40% of burn injuries and are recovering.
