Lakhs of farmers gather to bid Puttannaiah final adieu

The states farmers bid their mentor adieu in Puttannaiahs coconut farm where he was laid to rest with full state honours.

Lakhs of ryots from the far corners of the state gathered for the last rites and took part along with the MLAs family and friends.

The last rites were not performed according to any particular religious order, but with inspirational farmers movement songs.

The earth from all over state

Thousands of farmers who came from all over the state brought with them fistfuls of mud from their villages to put on Puttannaiahs last remains.

They poured the earth brought from their fields far away on the MLAs body to signify and seal the deep connection that their leader had with Mother Earth.

Deputy Commissioner N Manjushree and Superintendent of Police were present at the ceremony. Among others, seers of different mutts, district in-charge minister M Krishnappa and farmer leaders from across the state took part.

JD(S) National President H D Deve Gowda visited Puttannaiahs farm where he paid last respects to the departed farmer leader. Swaraj India Party leader Yogendra Yadav also took part.
