Kidnapping case suspects shot at, arrested

Two men suspected to be involved in the recent kidnap and assault of a woman were shot at when they stabbed a police constable in the wee hours of Monday.

The arrested- Shankar (25) and Selva Kumar- are both natives of Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu. They are undergoing treatment at a private hospital along with the stabbed constable Mahantesh attached to the Bellandur police station.

According to the police, at 3.45 am on Monday, Shankar and Kumar were driving in an Indica Vista car (registration number TN19-D-0555) on Sarjapur Road.

According to the police, the car suddenly hit the barricades at the Hadosiddapura police checkpoint and started speeding towards the BMTC quarters on Kodathi main road.

The police at the checkpoint swiftly sprang into action and began chasing the car in two police vehicles.

Finally, the suspects car was intercepted at the Kodathi BMTC quarters. The duo alighted from the car and tried to flee. They did not surrender even when the police warned them by firing in the air, said a senior officer.

When the police team tried to stop them, they stabbed constable Mahantesh in the abdomen. The police then fired at the two culprits in self-defence injuring their legs.

The two police teams were led by the police inspector, Victor Simon from Bellandur police station and police sub-inspector Somshekar from Whitefield police station.

All the injured were shifted to Stanford Hospital.

The suspects were involved in the case of a lady teachers kidnapping on March 18. The 28-year-old victim was walking on the Kasavanahalli Road at around 10 pm. That is when the suspects – Shankar, Selva Kumar and the car driver -forced her into their car, and sped away. The men molested the victim on the move. As they were drunk, the woman was able to put up a fight and escape when the car slowed down at Parappana Agrahara.
