Bengaluru: In a rare instance, the Karnataka High Court on Thursday imposed a cost of Rs 15 lakh to 11 petitioners who had moved the court questioning the tender invited by Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Tiptur, to construct its administrative building block at a cost of Rs 4 crore.
The court imposed the cost after dismissing the PIL filed by 11 petitioners challenging the huge amount of money being spent towards the construction of the block.
While the court imposed Rs 5 lakh on one H.B. Diwakar, a resident of Hogavanghatta, Tumakuru, the rest of them were fined with one lakh each for suppressing and misusing the jurisdiction of the plea filed in public interest.
The main petitioner, Diwakar, had to face the judicial wrath as he failed to disclose the fact that as being an APMC member he had participated in the meeting which decided in favour of constructing the said building.
The court has directed the petitioners to pay the costs to the Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner.
