Bengaluru: After Bescom announced its plan to set up charging stations for electric vehicles across the city, several government departments have shown interest and come forward to have these stations located on their premises.
The first charging station in the City will be inaugurated in a few days at the Bescom main office on K.R. Road, while in another 15 days, Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha will also have these stations.
Bescom Managing Director Rajendra Cholan told Deccan Chronicle, “For now, we will be opening the charging stations at the main office of Bescom, where three charging points will be enabled. At Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha also three charging points each will be set up.”
The main aim is to ensure that the public and officials start using electric vehicles which would help in reducing the air pollution and a better environment.
Another senior officer from Bescom said that after Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar made the announcement regarding electric vehicle charging stations, several government departments have come forward to know about its functioning.
“BBMP and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation BMRCL were interested about the plan and they have submitted a list where the charging stations can be set up. The location provided by them is under feasibility study and we will decide if that particular location is accessible for people to use these charging stations,” he added.
When asked about the price of charging, he said, “The Karanataka Electric Regulatory Commission (KERC) will decided about it and a public hearing will be held on February 19, where the prices will be decided and fixed for the consumers. The KERC is working on imposing a feasible price which would benefit both the operator and consumers.”
There is a separate cell formed to work on the charging stations and for deputing Bescom employees to maintain and operate it. Shortly, they will identify the places to set up charging stations, he added.
