Karnataka: Deaths of BJP men, farmers poll plank, says Muralidhar Rao

Bengaluru: The BJP is pulling out all stops to regain power in Karnataka with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to address a massive public rally in Bengaluru on February 4 and its state unit in-charge, Muralidhar Rao revealing it intends to take on the Congress government on the issue of farmers' suicides and killing of Hindu activists in the run-up to the polls.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Mr Rao accused the state government of  failing to prevent the suicide of farmers and taking no action on the murders of RSS workers in Karnataka.

Hitting out at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for blaming the Centre for not waiving farmers' loans issued by  nationalised banks, he said the Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh governments had waived their farmers' loans taken from nationalised banks without waiting for the Centre to act.

"The Chief Minister has also failed to implement Central government schemes for farmers," he charged. The BJP senior leader heaped praise on state party chief , B S Yeddyurappa, for extensively interacting with the people of the state through his Parivarthana Yatra.

" Yeddyurappa has drastically changed the political landscape of Karnataka by directly interacting with millions of people during the historic and unprecedented Parivarthan Yatra, which is scheduled to culminate in Mysore on January  25. He covered 10,000 kms in over 199 assembly constituencies spread over 26 districts, achieving  something unique in the political history of Karnataka," Mr Muralidhar Rao contended, claiming that the state BJP president was the only leader to take political discourse and debate seriously in Karnataka.
