Bengaluru: BBMP Mayor Ms Gangambike who inspected northern parts of Bengaluru at around 8pm on Tuesday was taken by surprise as majority of the street lights in the area were not functioning. Right after Government Veterinary College even after traveling for nearly two kilometres she couldn't see any street light glowing.
Angered by looking at the dark streets of Sanjaynagar, Ganganagar and Hebbal BBMP Mayor Gangambike directed officials to levy Rs 25,000 each on two different contractors who were tasked with the job to maintain street lights.
She also gave a surprise visit to the control room at Hebbal. There too while checking the complaint register she found that the zone had received majority of complaints relating to non functioning street lights.
She asked the concerned BBMP engineer to serve notices for non functioning street lights and take appropriate action immediately.
