Kalaburgi gets new command centre

Kalaburagi: With a view to provide priority to women and child in policing activity and also reduce the response time to any distress call from the common man, the Kalaburagi police have set up the City Command Centre. The centre will be headed by the Additional Superintendent of Police.

The Centre was dedicated to the city by Minister for Social Welfare Priyank Kharge, who is also the district in-charge minister.

With Kalaburagi city fasting growing as the educational and health care centre of the region, there is a greater influx of people into the City. This has led to an increase in the crime rate, especially among women and children forcing the police to pay special attention to these groups.

According to the Superintendent of Police N. Shashikumar the Centre comprised the following wings: Command Centre, Citizen Awareness Centre, Nirbhaya Centre and the Counselling Centre.

From the Command Room, the entire fleet of patrolling vehicles  will be monitored to ensure minimum response time to distress calls as well as efficient and visible policing through GPS and wireless communication. As many as as 33 bicycles, 21 bikes and 14 cars will form part of the fleet. Moroever there will be four bikes and two cars exclusively meant for women.

The Citizen Awareness Centre has been set up to create awareness about crime and how to protect oneself against it. Moreover awareness will imparted to the common man and also children about traffic, personal and property safety.

Mr Shashsikumar said that the Nirbhaya Centre manned by policewomen is aimed at creating safer public areas for women and children and protect them against eve teasing, physical/sexual abuse and other offences.
