Mangaluru: Condemning murders of about two dozen BJP activists in the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the families of the killed that justice would be delivered to them.
Mr Modi, addressing a rally here on Saturday, said, “Is this democracy? The chief minister should remember that people will punish him for his sins on May 12. Let the family members of those killed take it in writing that after May 12 (once the BJP comes to power), law will punish those responsible for these murders.”
He asked, “Will the government decide on communal lines as to who will be in prison and who will not be or who will face case and who will not.”
He gave examples of Congress leaders who were sidelined by the party for raising their voice against 'one family'. “It was Devaraj Urs and Karnataka people who gave second political career to Indira Gandhi. But Devaraj Urs was ousted as he was against Indira Gandhi, who wanted to give the control of the party to her son. Veerendra Patil lost power in the airport and president's rule clamped by Rajiv Gandhi,” he said.
He said, “They criticise every initiative of mine, including providing toilets, Yoga Day and Swacchta Abhiyan. A party which has been in rule for about six decades even doubts EVMs when BJP wins, questions Election Commission, raises questions on surgical strike and RBI. If any organisation from outside appreciates our work, Congress feels Modi has purchased them too. I work only for the country and not for me.”
Denying the possibility of a hung assembly, he said that the BJP will come to power with full majority and it was only a theory floated by the Congress to dishearten the voters. “Surveys have stated that the BJP is the only power that can stop the Congress and JD(S) will be just a distant third,” he said.
He appreciated local artist Karan Acharya, whose angry Hanuman image has become popular, saying, “Some have problem with this too. The eco-system of the Congress is hurt and Hanumanji is also dragged into a controversy.”
