A Karnataka Legislative Council committee has recommended action against the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) officials who “illegally” allotted land near Hubballi airport to different entities.
The Assurance Committee, which submitted its report to the Council secretariat on Friday, said that around 707 acres of land had been acquired for the Hubballi airport, as against 587 acres. The KIADB, instead of returning the excess land to the owners, allotted 43 acres to Infosys, 12 acres to Deshpande Foundation and 2 acres to Ananth Residency.
“This is against the law. The KIADB should have returned the land to the owners as per the law,” the committee chairman Basavaraj Horatti told reporters.
The nine-member committee has probed several assurances made by the government on misappropriation of funds for the year 2016-17. The committee has held 74 meetings and reviewed 1,379 assurances of 34 departments during this period.
“Thousands of crores of rupees has been misused by officials. We have even moved privilege motion against some of them. But until the government initiates strict action, there is no remedy for such corrupt activities,” said Horatti.
He said that senior officials, including some IAS officers, were involved in corruption. The government had not taken action against the guilty officials, he alleged.
