Hassan: Questioning the contributions of former chief minister and BJP state president B.S. Yeddyurappa to the development of districts in North Karnataka during his tenure, Minister for Public Works and JD(S) leader H.D. Revanna wondered how Mr Yeddyurappa had developed love for north Karnataka all of a sudden and invited him to an open discussion on North Karnataka's development.
Reiterating the commitment of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government to the comprehensive development of the state, Mr Revanna asserted that his brother Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy had not neglected the interests of north Karnataka and had granted Rs 250 crore for construction of pre-university colleges in 146 taluks of the state which also cover many taluks in the North.
He accused Yeddyurappa of making false and baseless allegations against Kumaraswamy. Defending Kumaraswamy, Mr Revanna said, "It's easy to criticize, all are targeting Mr Kumaraswamy." He appealed to leaders not to keep harping on division of the state just for the sake of publicity and appealed to them not to level baseless charges against the coalition government.
Criticising former minister and BJP MLA Umesh Katti for his remarks on farm loan waiver, Mr Revanna recalled that Mr Katti was groomed by his father and former PM H.D. Deve Gowda when he was in the JD(S).
"He should be ashamed about his comments," he said adding that as high as Rs 2,500 crore of farm loans will be waived off in Belagavi alone to which Mr Katti belongs.
Mr Revanna assured suitable measures to make Hassan a model district in the state.
He also visited Shravanabelagola Jain Matha on Wednesday after being made Hassan district incharge minister.
