Forest dept. captures leopard in Shravanabelagola

A two-year-old leopard was caught in a trap laid by the Forest department behind Doddabetta, near Sharavanabelgola, Hassan district, on Wednesday.

It may be recalled that Shravanabelagola is busy gearing up for the Mahamastakabhisheka this year. In this event, thousands of people from all over the country gather atop Vindhyagiri hill to worship Lord Bahubali.

The leopard had become a menace in the area, invading homes and fields often in search of prey like dogs and sheep.

The people of the region live in constant fear of being attacked by the big cat. They have requested the Forest department to capture two more leopards that have been sighted and are still roaming free.
