Dinner diplomacy pays off: Eshwarappa may get ticket Shivamogga City

A late night dinner hosted by senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa for party national president Amit Shah in Shivamogga on Monday appears to have ended on a positive note.

Shah showcased unity within the party by holding the hands of both Eshwarappa and BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa. Eshwarappa, who has been at loggerheads with Yeddyurappa over issue of party tickets, hosted the dinner at his residence. It was a sort of dinner diplomacy on the part of the leader of Opposition in Legislative Council. Yeddyurappa and top BJP leaders attended the dinner. Shah arrived for the dinner at 11 pm.

According to party sources, Eshwarappa is apprehensive about denial of the ticket from Shivamogga City, his home constituency. Yeddyurappa is keen that the ticket be given to his close aide Rudregowda, who lost by a narrow margin in 2013 polls on a KJP ticket. Eshwarappa had fared third in the election. By inviting Shah for the dinner, Eshwarappa wanted to send message that he can pull strings at the top level. It is learnt that Eshwarappa will be given a ticket to contest while Rudregowda will be made an MLC.
