BENGALURU: Union minister for statistics and programme implementation D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Saturday felt the coalition government would collapse soon because of bickering between coalition partners. Speaking at Bengaluru urban district party executive committee meeting here, Mr. Gowda stated that state unit chief B. S. Yeddyurappa would return as CM. “People are waiting to give a fitting reply to the unholy alliance between Congress and JD(S) in the urban local body elections. BJP will win more than 70 per cent of the seats in these polls,” he added.
The minister criticized the state government for making an attempt to divide the state by unnecessarily raising the issue of separate statehood for north Karnataka. Taking a dig at the media for reports about his reluctance to contest next year's Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Gowda advised party workers to ignore such reports. “The media is spreading rumours. I request you to concentrate on preparations for Lok Sabha elections. By the end of August we should conduct executive meetings in each Assembly constituency in Bengaluru urban district and fix the responsibility on cadre as part of preparations for Lok Sabha elections”, he added.
Mr Yeddyurappa warned that if corporators are not taking responsibility to work for the party, they would be denied ticket to contest the next BBMP elections. “I will call a meeting of BJP corporators and MLAs soon to discuss preparations for Lok Sabha elections. I do want to know your contributions to the party, I know that many corporators and MLAs are winning elections on individual capacity, but their contribution to the party is nil,” he said.
He criticized the “unholy” alliance between JD(S) and Congress, and advised party workers to expose both alliance partners and to bring awareness among people about the misdeeds of the present dispensation. Mr. Yeddyurappa expressed his displeasure over the party's poor show in recent Assembly elections in particular within BBMP limits. “We should ponder over reasons for our defeat and should gain the confidence of voters before Lok Sabha elections,” he added.
