City police ready for poll duty

City Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar has said elaborate arrangements have been made for the Assembly elections.

Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday, Kumar said the Election Commission is preparing for the polls by seeking security information from senior police officials.

While assuring that the police would take steps to ensure free and fair elections, he said field-level police officials will be given detailed information to take adequate security measures in sensitive and very sensitive areas in the city.

Kumar said members of the public have deposited nearly 400 of the 800 licensed weapons. “If anyone wants to seek an exemption from surrendering their weapons, the respective DCPs of the area can take a call,” he added.

Soon after the Assembly poll dates were announced, Kumar had issued an order, asking all gun holders to deposit their weapons in their jurisdictional police stations.
