Church Street inauguration advanced by 3 days, to be opened on March 1 now

The inauguration of the Church Street has been advanced to March 1. Earlier, the BBMP had planned to open it on March 4.

The Palike has completed all the work on the stretch. However, the four-wheeler parking bays will be constructed after the inauguration, a senior BBMP official said.

The event has been advanced following a change in the chief ministers schedule.

“We have got the schedule of the chief minister for the inauguration function on March 1 and we are working day and night to complete the work,” the officer said.

The work on the stretch had begun on February 22, 2017. After missing several deadlines, the BBMP is finally set to throw open the 750 metre stretch for the public.

BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad on Tuesday inspected work on the stretch.

After the inauguration, the civic body will hold a meeting with the traffic police to ensure that the entire street was free of vehicles on all weekends.

Three more projects

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will also inaugurate the much-awaited eight-lane flyover and an underpass at the Okalipuram Junction, a multi-level parking facility at the Freedom Park and the MG Road footpath on March 1, the BBMP officials said.

The eight-lane flyover and underpass, aimed at easing the traffic, is being built at a cost of Rs 352 crore. The multi-level parking facility will accommodate 40 cars and 60 two-wheelers for parking with 30% reserved for women.

The restoration of footpath on the MG Road by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited and the BBMP was already completed in June 2017. But still, the chief minister will formally inaugurate it on Thursday, the official added.
