Car mows down two schoolkids near Kolar

There was tension at Vadagur gate in Kolar taluk on Thursday as locals blocked National Highway 75 evening after two schoolchildren were killed and four injured in an accident.

The deceased were Narayanswamy (13) and Sudarshan (12), class VIII and class VII students respectively of the government primary school, Kembode. They are residents of Ramasandra village, said the police.

The injured include Vijay Kumar, a student, Venkatappa and Subramani, both residents of Vadagur village, added the police. The other injured victim has not been identified.Venkatappas condition is stated to be critical.

According to the police, the accident occurred when a group of around 80 students were waiting for buses to return home. Venkatappa and Subramani were chatting standing by the road near a bike.

Meanwhile, an Andhra Pradesh registered car which tried to overtake a vehicle from the wrong side, lost control when it approached the gate and drove his car on the pavement. The car knocked down the two victims and then crashed into Venkatappa, Subramani and others, said the police.

The driver drove further, abandoned the car and fled from the spot.

The two boys were killed on the spot, while the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, said the police.

Hundreds of locals gathered at the spot and blocked the road seeking construction of a flyover to prevent accidents.

Following the roadblock, vehicles lined up for a few kilometres on the busy highway. The police rushed to spot, pacified the residents and ensured smooth vehicular flow.
