Bengaluru: Denying reports in a section of the media that it was he who had suggested to AICC President Mr Rahul Gandhi not to expand the state Cabinet till parliament elections are over, former prime minister and JD(S) supremo Mr H.D. Deve Gowda said he had not even met Mr Gandhi during his recent visit to Delhi.
Speaking to reporters after participating in a function on Sunday, Mr Gowda said that as a matter of fact, he had suggested that the Congress complete the Cabinet expansion as well as nominations to state-run boards and corporations as soon as possible. “In Delhi, I met Mr K.C. Venugopal (Congress general secretary) and asked him to complete the reshuffle and filing of board posts. The issue is left to the Congress now,” he said while making it clear the JD(S) should not be blamed for the delay.
Mr Gowda also said his party had not yet decided on the candidate for the Lok Sabha bypolls scheduled for November 3. “We have to finalise the candidate for Mandya, we will do it in a day or two,” he said. The Ballari and Shivamogga Lok Sabha bypolls too will be held on the same day.
The Ballari seat was vacated by Mr B. Sriramulu, Shivamogga by B.S. Yeddyurappa and Mandya by C.S. Puttaraju after their election to the state Assembly in the polls held in May this year. The new MPs will however have a term of only 6-7 months.
