Cab driver assaulted by massage parlour staffers

Bengaluru: A 35-year-old cab driver has lodged a complaint of blackmail and assault by six staffers, including two women, of a massage parlour.

The victim said that the incident took place on July 29 in Nandagudi. The driver, a resident of Kadugodi, who wished not to be identified, filed the complaint on July 9 eight days after he was discharged from a hospital.

He named Ashraf, Karthik, Johan, Mamatha, Dimple, and Suresh as accused in the complaint. Since he is a thyroid patient and a diabetic, he wanted to go for an Ayurvedic massage. He located a parlour at Pratham Building in Banaswadi. When he went in, he was greeted by a woman dressed inappropriately. He asked for the Ayurvedic massage, but the staff told him it was only massage ‘service’, the complaint stated.

When the driver threatened to go to the media and police and started walking down the stairs, a few men from the parlour grabbed him by the shirt, took him back to the parlour and stripped him. They made him sit with a woman without clothes and clicked his photos. They also threatened to upload the photos if he approached the police.

The driver managed to escape from the parlour. When he reached near Shivanapura Cross on the way to Hoskote on Chinthamani Road, his vehicle was intercepted by another car and two motorcycles. The accused then assaulted him with beer bottles and a knife, injuring him in his hand. He got admitted to two private hospitals and stayed there for eight days, the complaint stated.

A senior police officer said that during the probe it was found that the driver is an RTI activist. The police are investigating whether he had a motive behind targeting the parlour.
