Bengaluru: With the Assembly polls just five weeks away, the state BJP has kickstarted an exercise to elicit the opinion of party leaders and workers from all districts on the selection of candidates.
The exercise started on Wednesday and will continue on Thursday and resume on Saturday after a day's break on Friday. On day one, the consultation for 78 constituencies were completed, sources in the party said. These include constituencies in the BBMP region, Kalaburgi, Bidar, Yadgir, Ballari, Raichur, Koppal, Ramanagara, Bengaluru Rural, hikkaballapura and Kolar districts.
The party's CM candidate and state unit president, B.S. Yeddyurappa, along with state office bearers and senior leaders recorded the feedback given by delegations of 10-12 leaders from the districts including the district president, his predecessors and a few other office bearers. At Wednesday's meeting, neither Mr Yeddyurappa nor other leader spoke, however they allowed the district leaders to give their views on the political dynamics in their districts and who would be the best candidate in the prevailing circumstances.
Sources said the state unit has not carried out any survey as such, however, Mr Yeddyurappa, who has already toured the state twice, knows the dynamics at work in almost all constituencies pretty well. The inputs and the expert opinion of Mr Yeddyurappa would be presented before the central leadership which will take a final decision on the candidates, sources explained.
