Bengaluru: The city traffic police have been told to map all the abandoned and seized vehicles lying on the road side, and move them away.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar has directed Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic) P. Harishekaran to ensure that such vehicles are not found on the roads, or even in front of the police stations and government offices.
It is learnt that the vehicles seized by the police and those involved in accidents were found abandoned in front of the police stations and government offices. They occupy the road space and also turn into eyesores.
The DyCM has ordered the traffic police to remove such vehicles at the earliest.
A senior traffic police officer said, “We have been receiving hundreds of complaints from the residents and public that there are vehicles which are left abandoned on the road side and even in residential areas for years. Whenever we receive a complaint, we tow away the vehicle, but no one comes to claim it and it languishes at police stations.”
“Now, we are identifying the abandoned and damaged vehicles left on the road side and will shift them to a place allotted near Nelamangala, which will be ready in a month’s time. We cannot auction or scrap the vehicles until the court orders are issued,” the officer added.
The officer also mentioned that even vehicles which were lying unused for a long time will be towed away. “We will summon the owner and ask him to remove the vehicle within a day, failing which it will be taken away,” he said.
Another officer said that garage owners have also been warned against leaving old vehicles on the pavements or on the road side.
He added, “We have already started the process of identifying such vehicles. We would request the public to provide information regarding such vehicles through social media or by calling the control room.”
