Bengaluru: Mohammed Nalapad Haris bail hearing adjourned

Bengaluru: The 63rd Sessions Court on Friday adjourned the bail plea hearing of Congress MLA, N A Haris’s son, Mohammed Nalapad Haris, to Saturday and gave the counsel for Vidwat, the 24- year -old diner he brutally beat up in a UB City restaurant last week, time till Monday to file objections.

Five of those involved in the attack on Vidwath were arrested  Sunday evening and Mohammad Nalapad,  who had evaded arrest for 36 hours, surrendered before the Cubbon Park police on Monday morning along with one of his associates.

All the seven accused were produced before the 8th ACMM court on Monday and were remanded to judicial custody till Wednesday, March 1.

In his submission to the court, Vidwath’s counsel, Shyam Sundar argued that letting Nalapad out on bail put the safety and security of his client and  of witnesses in the case at risk.  He contended that the accused had brutally attacked Vidwath with an intention to kill him and later went to the hospital where he was undergoing treatment to threaten him.

“The accused may use his political and financial power to destroy evidence and may pose a threat to the victim’s life,” Mr. Sundar added.

Responding to his request for more time to file the objection to the bail plea, the court adjourned the hearing to Saturday.

Arguing in favour of the bail,  Nalapad’s counsel pointed out in court that the complaint filed with the Cubbon Park police station after the UB City brawl made no mention of him and section 307 of the IPC was only added later to the case under political pressure.

Haris, wife try to meet Vidwath
A day before Mohammed Nalpad’s bail plea was to be heard, MLA NA Haris and his wife tried to meet Vidwath at the Mallya Hospital where he is undergoing treatment, but were reportedly not allowed. The couple, however, met his parents and pleaded with them not to object to their son’s bail plea. According to sources, Mr. Haris desperately wanted to check on Vidwath’s medical condition but did not get the opportunity. He reportedly told Vidwath’s family that he would bring his son and make him apologise to him.
