Bengaluru: A 59-year-old landlord, whose properties worth a few crores, was robbed and strangled to death by unidentified assailants at Yelahanka New Town on Friday night.
The deceased, Venkatapathi, a landlord, had gone out of his house in a car and did not return. Worried family members searched for a few hours and later filed a missing complaint at the Sampigehalli police station. Venkatapathi owned few acres of land in Sampigehalli that are worth several crores.
The murder came to light when a few passersby found the body lying on the roadside and alerted the police. The Yelahanka New Town police rushed to the spot and based on the physical description given by the family members identified him as Venkatapathi. His family members too confirmed his identity. The family said that his four gold rings, a bracelet, a gold chain and a Rado watch he was wearing are missing.
The police found the car abandoned a kilometre away from the spot where the body was found.
The police suspect that Venkatapathi was murdered for gain and have registered a case of murder and robbery. But they are not ruling out other reasons for the murder too.
