Bengaluru: Depressed techie drowns self

Bengaluru: A 25-year-old techie committed suicide by jumping into a lake in Anekal taluk on the city outskirts on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Sumanth, a resident of Basaveshwaranagar in the city. He was working as a software engineer with a private company in the city. Sumanth drove to Gudnahalli in Anekal taluk from his residence to commit suicide.

The police said he was depressed and jumped into the lake in Gudnahalli village after parking his car (registration number KA 51 N 8958) on the roadside.

He left his house on Thursday morning and reached near the lake in the afternoon. However, he spent some time near the lake before taking the extreme step, the police said. Sumanth jumped into a lake all of a sudden. A few passersby spotted Sumanth drowning and rushed to rescue him, but by the time they could swim close to him, he drowned, the police added. They then alerted the Anekal police, who rushed to the spot and began the rescue operation with the help of fire and emergency service officials. After hours of struggle, Sumanth’s body was fished out by fire and emergency service officials, with the help of local police. Initially, the fire and emergency officials found it difficult to find the body as the lake had become muddy following rains.

Preliminary investigation revealed no foul play, as there was no one near the lake when the incident happened. However the police are investigating all the angles.

A case has been registered at the Anekal police station in this regard and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
