Bengaluru: With the city’s ranking on Swachh Survekshan survey sliding down every year, the BBMP now wants to unleash a social media campaign to shore up the same.
It may be noted that one fourth of survey marks lies with citizens feedback and BBMP wants to tap this segment. It is taking the social media route as outdoor advertising has been banned in the city.
Sharing more details, a top BBMP official said, "Bengaluru has been performing dismally in the Swachh Survekshan Survey securing the 216th and 210th rank in the surveys in the last two years. This year on cities will not be given ranks but 'star rating systems' and top rating will fetch seven stars."
We have had meetings with solid waste management experts and NGOs to carry out steps to improve the ratings. One of the major suggestions put forth was to create awareness about the survey among citizens, as their participation carries one fourth weightage, he explained.
As outdoor advertising is banned we will solely relay on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. In these platforms we will create awareness on the recent measures taken to keep the city clean, garbage management, segregation etc.
Along with this we will also share details on the number of pourakarmikas, sweeping machines, segregation percentage, number of people penalised for littering etc.
In addition, we will also rely on print media to educate the masses, he added.
