BBMP to distribute voter’s guide before polling

In order to educate people about the voting process, the BBMP along with the district election office will distribute voters guide ahead of the Assembly polls scheduled on May 12.

The guide will include all details such as the dos and donts in a polling booth, the procedure to explain the polling process and even the contact numbers of the election officers concerned in respective zones in the city.

The civic body will also distribute photo voters slip which includes name, photo and other details, similar to the voter ID card.

“Both, the voters guide and photo voters slip will be distributed through our door-to-door campaign that will be launched on April 7 to attract more voters towards the polling booth,” said District Election Officer and BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad.

Preparations are underway to ensure that a total of 87.9 lakh registered voters from the city can cast their vote through 28 Assembly constituencies this time. While 46,04,190 are male, 41,92,706 are female voters and remaining 1,439 belong to the third gender.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Prasad said this time five personnel would man each polling booth to assist the VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) machines.

For physically challenged

The Palike has got a list of physically challenged voters in the city and has made arrangements to erect ramps at the polling booths and also to arrange vehicles for them on the polling day.

A total of 54,400 polling personnel will be deployed for all 28 Assembly constituencies and each constituency will have six flying squads, three static surveillance team, one video viewing team and an accounting team.

Each Assembly constituency will also have one all-woman polling booth this time.

As of now, 1.20 lakh new voters have been given Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) cards and another 2 lakh voters are expected to get it in another 10 days time.

Eye on bank transactions

The district election officer has also co-ordinated with all banks and the income tax department to bring to their notice any unnatural transactions in accounts.

“We have asked the bank to report to us if any account exceeds the money withdrawal limit or if the deposits were more,” said Prasad.

He said that they have discussed with the RTOs and excise department to take proper actions against those violating the model code of conduct.

The citizens can register their names in the voters list till April 14.

Mock voting

Mock voting will be done on the voting day and the polling officers will cast 50 mock votes from 6 am to 6.30 am to show how the polling process would function.

It is estimated that each voter would take up to 30 seconds to cast their vote.
