BBMP chooses spot next to Hoodi govt school to dump garbage!

BENGALURU: The civic administration, which is expected to make the lives of citizens smooth, most of the time ends up being the biggest threat to the people. At Hoodi Circle on Whitefield Road, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagare Palike (BBMP) has dumped a big pile of garbage, right next to a government primary school, putting over 200 children and nearby residents at health risk. The junction is a one-way and between 7 and 8 am, ten lorries stop near the circle and unload waste.

“That is the time when school buses come to pick up children. The BBMP lifts the garbage by afternoon, but if there is more, it is left at the spot to be cleared the next day,” said Mr Manjunath, a resident. Though residents have complained to the area corporator, health inspector and the senior officers of the Palike, there has been no relief. Mr Manjunath said that there is also the threat of leachate seeping into the ground and contaminating ground water sources.

Though the Palike had said CCTV cameras would be installed in all areas, there are none at this black spot, and the residents have been clicking photos and giving them to the mayor as proof of uncontrolled garbage dumping at the spot.
Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun said, “I will direct the officials to take action at the earliest.” The residents complained that because of the garbage pile, the area is infested with mosquitoes. Over 2,000 residents from the area have vowed to clean the area on the Gandhi Jayanti Day on Tuesday as part of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.
