10th Bengaluru International Film Festival…And the reel action begins

Bengaluru: The inaugural event epitomised the glory of Karnataka culture and action soon shifted to the epicentre of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (B(IFFES). The best films around the world, handpicked and curated by a jury, will compete in various categories over the next week – a treat for every film buff, no doubt!

Unlike the previous year, the 10th edition of BIFFES is being held in Bengaluru alone. The festival began on a high note, with a significant increase in the number of registered delegates and a line up of films that definitely inspires pride. More than 200 films will be screened during the festival, several of which have competed at several prestigious events across the world. Around 50 of the chosen movies have been received Academy Award nominations.

While the rush for the event started to build as early as Friday, with registered audiences turning out in good numbers, organisers are expecting a full house on weekends. However, no daily passes will be issued to unregistered audiences this year.

“We have not decided about issuing daily passes to members who have failed to register for the event. Last year, a limited number of daily passes were issued on a first-come, first-served basis. This year, we have over 5000 delegates from various categories, a very high tally. We may not issue the daily passes now,” said a BIFFES official.

He adds that the a limited number of passes were reserved during last year’s event, which took place across Bengaluru and mysuru. “The total seating capacity at PVR, Orion Mall, is around 2656 and the Dr Raj Bhavan theatre at Chamarajpet is 287. With over 5,000 registered members, which doesn’t include the weekend rush, no daily passes might be available.

Life will be easier for those who have registered, however, with organises extending the concessional parking fee facility. This can be redeemed at counters after 6 pm. A separate ‘film festival menu’ with an array of snacks and beverages priced at reasonable rates has also been arranged inside the theatre.
